Who we are
Since 2011, FAM has served 21 communities in the San Marcos area with services that range from offering hundreds of local children a quality preK-13 education program and partnering with public schools to work together on projects for the benefit the of local children, to providing water filters and training families in nutritional independence. FAM continuously seeks ways to positively impact the lives of the rural families of San Marcos.
San Marcos is a region located in the southwest region of Guatemala, where the municipality of La Reforma is located. It is a community of 18,500 inhabitants, made up of 3,800 families, of which 50% are under 18 years of age. With regard to gender breakdown of the total population, 48.8% are men and 51.2% are women.
This is an area heavily dependent on coffee production and is made up of mainly coffee and other agricultural workers who support this export crop with their labor.

AMF/FAM offers a superior educational program and school facilities. Our well-rounded curriculum and school philosophy place learning and self-sufficiency at the center. We were established as a rural school in Guatemala by our Great Grandparents, and as of 2011, our quality PreK-13 education program, was incorporated as a non-profit organization in San Francisco, California. Located in the municipality of La Reforma, San Marcos, AFM/FAM is a model for rural educations in the country, where students graduate with employable skills, are self-reliant and contribute to the economic growth of their communities.
